Kimberly McLaurin, LMSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker, and I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. After graduation, I was licensed as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor and completed a certification in equine therapy, under the EAGALA model, which is horses helping people.
I am blessed to have joined the Babb Center in 2022. My experience includes counseling within a school system in Michigan, for K-2nd grades. I have also worked with families and individuals who have been affected by alcohol and drug use at a leading treatment facility in Detroit and Nashville. As a result, I gained a working knowledge of the 12-step programs to help with co-dependence and learning to let go with love. I am a current foster parent and have hands-on experience navigating all that comes with the trauma, hurt, and pain found within the littles in our foster care system.
My counseling interests include managing anxiety, depression, boundaries, blended families, grief, co-dependency, adoption and foster care, adolescent issues, relationship issues, death and dying, alcohol and drug use, and self-esteem. I use a variety of techniques and interventions to support, empower, and help you set and reach your personal goals. These include modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, Mindfulness and Relaxation Methods, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I have an adult son and gained a beautiful daughter-in-law this year. I am a foster mom to several amazing children. I am helping my dad through the aging process. I have two beautiful Australian shepherds, Cowboy and Sawyer. I also have horses and cats that bring joy to both my home and farm. Outside of work, I enjoy being in nature with my family and friends, camping, kayaking, riding horses in the mountains, and gardening.
